Meet Our Team

Rick Hendel, Owner

With a passion for architectural design and building, Rick Hendel started Hendel Homes in 1997.  After receiving his B.S. in biology from Bethel University, he pursued a medical degree. However, he so thoroughly enjoyed his experience in the building industry that he devoted himself to studying architecture and home construction. His background includes many roles, from laborer to carpenter to field supervisor/project manager, and eventually, to business owner.

Rick’s desire to build beautiful residences, while providing clients with the highest level of value, architectural authenticity, and craftsmanship, led him to create Hendel Homes. He is committed to creating a one-of-a-kind, timeless design for your residence maintaining integrity in every aspect of the process.

Rick believes the uniqueness of Hendel Homes lies in the architectural cohesiveness of melding the design elements and the construction detail with the needs and desires of each client. He has been part of the design process on many new custom homes and renovation projects, which gives him the ability to envision, depict and build the client’s vision. In client meetings, Rick will often make rough sketches of exterior architectural detailing or unique interior design, all with the ultimate goal of meeting and exceeding the client’s expectations.

“The depth of commitment and detail that each member of our team gives to every project, living and breathing it, is just part of who we are.”

Rick grew up in Burnsville, MN, and Eau Claire, WI. He enjoys playing hockey, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his wife Amy and two children. Since Amy shares his love of traveling, they enjoy studying architecture both locally and abroad, gaining inspiration and new ideas to incorporate into the building and design process. Rick and Amy are also co-founders of a nonprofit organization, Educate Rwanda, which seeks to offer aid to the Rwandan people in a holistic way.

Amy Hendel, Designer & Communications

Amy Hendel grew up in Chicago, IL.  She received her B.A. in Business with a minor in Marketing and Finance from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN, graduating summa cum laude.   Many of Amy’s elective courses during college and throughout life have been art classes.  She studied at Altos de Chavon, School of Design, located in the Dominican Republic and affiliated with Parsons in New York, the New School for Design.  She has also been an IT Consultant Project Manager for various industries and companies throughout the US but now enjoys her role solely as a designer with Hendel Homes, as well as being home with their two children, Ava (7) and Ashton (5).

Amy remembers going to the Parade of Homes with her parents when she was younger and traveling, which inspired her love of interior design and architecture. Immersing herself in magazines, books, and classes has only added to her natural talent for artful conception.  Rick and Amy’s work has been featured in national publications throughout the country.

Amy’s design expertise, hands-on approach, and constant communication with the client create a trust and personal connection that ultimately lends itself to “peace of mind” during the process.

Barb Waddell, Business Manager

Having received a B.A. in fine arts and administration, Barb has an extensive background in managing and scheduling. She is also a pianist and music teacher. She is married with three children and nine grandchildren and enjoys spending free time with her family and traveling.

Project Manager/Field Supervision

Allan Voight, Field Supervisor & Project Manger

Allan has been involved in the building industry for over thirty-five years. He started as a carpenter in his family’s business and has been the lead carpenter on hundreds of unique projects. Allan thrives on challenge, complexity, and detail.

Having worked in all trades in the construction industry, Allan’s broad base of experience enables him to provide informed and respected supervision for many ultra-custom residential projects, maintaining overall project organization, scheduling, and documentation. Many of our tradesmen refer to him as the only job superintendent/project manager they would let supervise and manage the building of their own houses.

Married for thirty-four years with four children and four grandchildren, Allan maintains additional interests in classical music in addition to studying and learning architecture. He graduated summa cum laude from UW Stout with a B.S. in industrial technology/building construction management.

Bill Brinkman, Field Supervisor & Project Manger

Bill’s background in the building industry comes from owning and operating a successful residential remodeling company. With over seventeen years of experience, he is known for his strong work ethic and a desire to achieve the highest level of client satisfaction. This makes him an integral part of the Hendel team.

Bill started his career as a carpenter, attaining certification as a Lead Carpenter (CLC) and Certified Remodeler (CR) through the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). With a long list of national, regional, and local awards for his leadership and management skills, Bill’s meticulous attention to detail and his ability to collaborate with a team of professional tradesmen provides our clients with the most enjoyable and rewarding building experience.

As a project manager, Bill is responsible for insuring the high-quality performance of our tradesmen. His daily critical path scheduling to insure “on time” projects preserves the budget of the work and cleanliness of the site. He also documents job progress via weekly photos, enabling both team members and clients to respond quickly to any questions or issues through personal contact or website access.

Married and the father of two daughters, Bill enjoys biking, skiing, camping, and volunteering. His degree in business administration from Northwestern College provides a solid foundation for not only his desire to create a core ideology of integrity but also his ability to interpret individual project needs, all within a holistic view of managing.
